Broadway Miller

Broadway Miller: The Definition of Southern Rap

When you think Broadway what comes to mind? Do you think big city lights, dancing, and talented vocalist? Well actually, maybe you should think about the one and only luxurious Layla Lounge. Desiree Samira the host of the Metropolitan Muse concert series wants Layla Lounge to be the platform for underground artist to make their mark in a "professional and healthy atmosphere". The environment was so enriched with beautiful people networking, dancing, and lounging around the intimate candle lit tables. It was eleven o'clock on the dot as the crowd at Layla were almost done with their drinks, and hungry for some more oysters and shrimps when Broadway Miller came down the stair well making his grand entrance.

This brings me to the high light of the night, rap artist Broadway Miller. A southern lyricist growing up on the streets of Chadbourn North Carolina from Miller Street to Broadway street, thus how he came up with the name Broadway Miller. He is originally from Chadbourn North Carolina, and was raised by his mother and accompanied by his sister. Just like any little boy, he had to keep his self busy in a house full of women. At the age of seven, Broadway began to write and when he wrote he was always rhyming. He enjoyed writing but realized his rhymes on paper were not as good as when he would just free style. Realizing his flow, he then began to write after free styling coming up with incredible lyrics. " I just wanted to write incredible lyrics everyone could relate to and enjoy," Broadway said. Miller always looked up to R&B artist such as Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Keith sweat, Mary J,and Jodici. Through their music he felt a connection to the hustle and bustle of everyday life we all experience. Some of his favorite current rap artist consist of Wu-Tang, Jay-Z, Slick Rick, UGK, and Nas.

Broadway was awrded for "The Best New Artist" out of North Carolina for the North Carolina Underground Music Awards. “Keep determined and stay focused, you're not the only person going through these hard times” Broadway said describing his track Break it down. Broadway came to DMV to get exposure and to pursue a degree for Business Management at Howard University. He loves the DMV area and always feels at home here.” I love home, but when I discover new places and people I cannot help but want to see the new things,”says Broadway. He has a hectic schedule filled with performances, and working on his albums. He recently released a mixtape entitled "Catch or get Caught," and is busy working on Volume 2. "This album is going to be enriched with more creativity, and songs that really make you think while listening."

He started his performance with a track called "Guaranteed". Just the beginning of a great performance closing his eyes, making it seem like he was talking to everyone in the crowd secretly. “When I perform I get naked, meaning I reveal the true Broadway, making a deep connection with my audience making eye contact, and showing passion to everyone in my audience.” He then performed the hit "Passenger Side," making all the woman in the crowd want to sit down next to him in his ride. "Windows Half-way Down" is another song revealing an interesting and unique side of Broadway in addition to "Do it Right" and "Fear Letter to the Hood". The name “Broadway” was redefined Wednesday night at Layla Lounge, yes he is about talented vocals, having fun, and performing but it is that Southern touch that brings it to the DMV rather than in Broadway theaters.

Sooooo I went to the Passion Pain and Pleasure Concert with Trey Songz and Monica it was amazing. The show was absolutely incredible! Monica was first and she did an awesome job as always she even sang some Whitney Houston Songs! I feel that her back round could have been a little more prettier but it was cool!

Then there was Trey!!! Oh man I must say I have not always been into Trey like that but he has become such a great artist over the years! He sang for about 2 hours! The audience was really apart of his performance, he really had me laughing when he was like " well I see everyone taking pictures of me so I am going to take a picture of you all." So Trey takes out a Camera and takes a picture of the audience!!! His swag is so real and I love his creativity!!!! Please go out and purchase his album it was just released 9/14/2010;)

Fantasia For Real

A self-described "country" girl, Fantasia Barrino won the third season of American Idol at just 19...and her life would never be the same. The fan favorite, whose huge voice even made Simon Cowell drool, seemed destined for super stardom. Her first album went platinum, breaking Billboard charts and garnering Grammy nominations in four categories. Her autobiographical book made the New York Times bestseller list, and she landed the lead role in Oprah Winfrey's Broadway production of The Color Purple.

But then things started to wane, both personally and professionally...and the rumor mill was working overtime: foreclosure, diva behavior, illiteracy, dropped by her label, fired by her management, dumped by The Color Purple. Its been an awesome burden to bear, especially for the now 24 year-old who is singlehandedly supporting a family of six while struggling to rebuild her career. But if anyone can make lemons into sweet tea, it's Fantasia Barrino. Now the time has come for Fantasia's resurrection. Armed with her God-given talents, a new manager, new songs and a second chance to star in The Color Purple, Fantasia vows not to make the same mistakes twice. But the road to success is paved with obstacles.

Fantasia has an out-of-work brother who dreams he's a "boss," a younger brother who's on the fast track to delinquency and a precocious 8 year-old daughter. Managing her family would be a full-time job on its own, but Fantasia is determined to revive her career and live life on her own terns. How will Fantasia handle it all? With grit, perseverance, laughter and a whole lot of prayer!

Real and Chance are Back

Hi all!!! I wanted to talk to you guys about the new hit TV shows on VH1!

  • Real and Chance Legend Hunters:
Man has always been fascinated with Nature's Animal Tales. Some are real; The man eating Catfish of the Kali River, The Mega Shark, Hogzilla, Super Crocs, and the Giant Squid. Some may be only myth; Bigfoot, The Chupacabrah, the Loch Ness Monster and The Yeti. But two men believe in the stories and they intend to find them all. Their names... Real and Chance. That's right, Real and Chance; Lovers, Horse breeders, recording artists, Stallionaires.

Neither of them are scientists, nor investigators. And despite their claims to the contrary, they're no outdoorsmen either. They're scared of bugs, bats, frogs and almost anything that slithers or crawls. They can't take a fish off a hook because slimy things scare them. But they are believers. Sit them down with a Bigfoot expert or a group of locals who claim to have seen their loved one eaten by a catfish and they will not only believe their tales, but they'll talk about the creatures as if they've seen them themselves.

They can't use a compass, set up a tent, or build a fire. And it's true that the only plant they can identify is the kind that comes rolled up in a zip loc baggie. But, these boys do have heart and an unchecked desire to discover things that freak them out. Each week, Real and Chance will go in search of a new creature, from the giant bat of Sweden to Hogzilla of Alabama. After arriving in these new lands, the brothers will learn about the animal mission they are about to embark on. They will meet with experts and the locals who have reported sightings or even come in contact with these animals themselves. But will they be able to focus on the hot Swedish girl's details of her bat sighting or will they be distracted by the beautiful "sighting" in front of them?

After learning about the creature, and after the experts convince them to stop freaking out, they will have to learn some fundamental skills in order to aid them in their hunt. For the Komodo Dragon they will have to learn how to read his tracks, for the Capybara they will be taught how to set up a net trap, and for the Giant Squid they will learn how to swim...or at least how to doggie paddle better with life jackets. Armed with their new hunting skills, Real and Chance will then travel to remote destinations, set up camp, and attempt to accumulate evidence and try to hunt or trap the creature. Along the way Real and Chance will meet exotic new cultures; from the pygmies of the Amazon, "Why ain't any of these little mens wearing clothes , brah?" to the Scottish of Scotland, "Why are all these mens wearing skirts, brah?" And they will be forced to deal with the strange and bizarre...like haggis. "I don't eat nothing that smells like feet". The legends are out there. Can these guys find them? Probably not. But it'll be fun to watch them try.

Spotlight on DMV

SPOTLIGHT ON DMV MUSIC

3 way with 3-D Productions....a 3 dimensional experience

Talk about talent! This exclusive, up close and personal interview I had with the team 3-D Productions was amazing! Notice how I used the word team. They are the complete opposite of your average group which means they are a team working together always and forever. Well, let me get started and tell you what the teams sound, style, and artist are all about! They are a team full of artist with 3 sounds pop, rap, and hip hop! I may even say they have a little R&B too! The names of the team members are 3-D aka Devon the dreamer feat. Kelz, Nia-Soul, Erin Nicole, J-Reed, and Vision 1. Between the all of them their style of music can be rap,R&B, pop, and intense lady flowing lyrics! The music is really catchy and I can see them making it any day now on BET or MTV Jams! With the diversity of each team member you can really tell the potential in each member. What I love about the team is that they will always continue to have each others back! If one blows up they will make sure their team will get successful eventually!

So, how did they get started? They all attended the college Norfolk State University and it was a miracle in the making! They were just playing around and made a video on you tube flowing with a hot beat and next thing you know they were like "hmmm I think we may have some talent!" 3-D the member is considered to be a rap artist, engineer, writer, and the producer of the group. He is very creative and I can see him being huge one day! Vision 1 is a cross over male R&B star, writer, and a really strong artist. J-Reed is a rap artist whose style has been compared to Nas and Common. Erin Nicole sound is a R&B mixed with pop and jazz. Her voice is amazing!!! Nia- Soul is a rap artist with intense flowing, and has some tracks with her singing too! Their Agenda this summer is just to promote themselves by going to open mic gigs, and trying to book a performance on 106th and Park along with tours on the east coast. They have a lot of their material on 3-D ProductionsTV on youtube.com. You can also check them out at www.youtube.com/Niasoul1
